2025 Interior Design Trends
Anyone else feel a burst of energy and motivation when the new year rolls around? When the Christmas decorations come down and the house feels a little bare, now is the perfect time to step back and plan your design and decoration for the year ahead.
Do you have a space that doesn't feel quite right? Well, we've pulled together five interior design trends for 2025 you should consider incorporating in to your home this year.
Earth Tones
You know we're obsessed with anything inspired by nature, so we're pleased to see that earthy tones are packing a punch for 2025! Soft clay tones, warm taupes, and sandy beiges provide a cosy atmosphere, making your home feel like a sanctuary.
These versatile colours work well with various styles, from minimalist and modern to rustic and bohemian. They also pair beautifully with natural materials like wood, stone, and leather - which we love.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
Use paint, limewash or textured paint to create a neutral backdrop.
For a bolder statement, opt for an accent colour in rich terracotta or mossy green, or add pops of blush pink or dusty blue for a subtle vibrancy.
Choose furniture made from natural materials like wood, linen, wool and jute.
Accessorise with blankets, cushions and rugs in complementary shades such as caramel, ochre and rust.
Choosing earth tones is more than a design choice - it's an embrace of warmth, nature, and sustainability. So, bring the outdoors in and let these beautiful tones transform your interior into a haven of comfort and style.
Arches
This trend is popping up everywhere in interior design, and we can see why. Soft arches are reminiscent of shapes found in nature - like rolling hills, gentle waves, or the curve of a tree branch - so you know that's an instant tick in our book! They feel more organic and soothing than sharp, straight lines.Â
You’ll soon find arches in everything from doorways and windows to built-in niches and cabinets. They add a touch of playfulness and help soften harsh angles to create a welcoming, cosy vibe.
Why not add an elaborate arched mirror, scalloped headboard or curved accent chair into your home this year?
Dark Wood
Plot twist for 2025 - say goodbye to pale oaks and light finishes, and hello to dark rich tones like mahogany, walnut, and ebony-stained oak. Dark woods add a sense of depth and drama while still feeling inviting and connected to nature - win!
Choose a sleek walnut dining table with textured chairs, or an ebony-stained cabinet paired with muted wall colours and plush rugs for instant sophistication without veering into "too formal" territory.
If you don't want to go all in, opt for smaller touches like a dark timber-framed mirror or a refined sideboard, which can subtly elevate your space without overwhelming it.
Cosy Minimalism
Let’s talk about cosy minimalism — where less is more, but feels more 'warm, embracing hug' than hospital waiting room! Create spaces that feel inviting and lived-in while keeping things simple and uncluttered, like minimalism with soul.
We've already touched on using earthy tones, swapping stark whites for muted tones, but cosy minimalism also incorporates warm textures, soft edges and thoughtful furniture choices. Think boucle chairs, chunky knit throws, or vintage rugs. These elements create inviting, lived-in spaces that feel warm, approachable, and perfect for relaxing.
Minimalism isn’t about bare spaces; it’s about keeping only what you need and love.
Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Living
Not us saving the best till last..... 2025 is the year of making choices that are kind to the planet without sacrificing style. Expect to see more recycled and reclaimed materials, like weathered wood, recycled glass, and upcycled textiles.
'Fast fashion' is definitely a problem, even in interior design (we're all guilty of it!), but, we are getting smarter about what we bring into our homes. Think about thoughtful, high-quality pieces that serve a purpose - or better yet, multiple purposes. A sleek coffee table that doubles as storage, or a comfy daybed that transforms into guest seating.
Nature is also sneaking back indoors, with biophilic design, lush greenery and eco-friendly alternatives for upholstery and flooring. Designing with sustainability in mind doesn’t just make your space more beautiful; it tells a story about care for the environment, your home, and for yourself.
Sustainability is definitely a priority at Oakes & Co. Interiors, so over the coming months we'll be researching better, more sustainable choices in our post-renovation decor, that we'll be sharing with you here.
